2018 Conference on Engineering
An invitation to submit Papers/Proposals and attend the Conference to be held in
Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Slovakia
11 - 14 June 2018
Under the joint patronage of the Faculty of Architecture at Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Bratislava, Slovakia, in collaboration with the Faculty of Architecture, Cracow University of Technology, Kraków, Poland, and the World Institute for Engineering and Technology Education (WIETE) organise jointly the 2018 Conference on Engineering and Architecture Design Education to take place at Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Bratislava, Slovakia, between 11 - 14 June 2018.
Several institutions and individuals, members of the WIETE, as well as other organisations are co-sponsors and supporters of the Conference.
Conference Co-sponsors include the following WIETE Partner Institutions:
It is anticipated that the number of Co-sponsors and Support Organisations will increase as several other institutions consider becoming involved in this endeavour.
This 2018 Conference on Engineering and Architecture Design Education builds on the series of extremely successful international conferences held in the past, such as the World Conference on Technology and Engineering Education (Kraków 2010, Ljubljana 2011, Athens 2014, and Bratislava 2015); the World Conference on Engineering Education (Sydney 1989, Portsmouth 1992, Minneapolis-St. Paul 1995); the East-West Congress on Engineering Education (Kraków 1991, Łódź 1993, Gdynia 1996) and, then, the Global Congress on Engineering Education (Kraków 1998, Wismar 2000, Glasgow 2002, Bangkok 2004 and New York 2006), to name a few. Based on such previous extensive experience, the present Conference is a continuation of the international effort of sharing and exchanging ideas, experiences and achievements within the international community of technology and engineering, as well as engineering and architecture educators in this case.
Areas of Interest
It is envisaged that the Conference will provide the participants with the opportunity to interact on all aspects of engineering and architecture design education, and such interactions as workshops, team work, panel debates, group discussions, individual presentations, and others, will be led and aided by several eminent international keynote speakers, leaders of the specific areas of interest. It is envisaged that a special conference workshop for higher degree students will be included in the Conference Programme at the same venue.
In accordance with the Conference aims and objectives, the following general areas of interest were identified for discussion:
Suggested specific topics for the Conference include, but are not restricted to, the following:
It is anticipated that Conference papers will cover a wide and diverse range of topics, issues and ideas concerning contemporary problems and challenges in engineering and architecture design education that need to be identified, addressed and discussed. The coverage of specific topics should include, and make references to, professional, pedagogical and methodological matters, innovation and talent cultivation, results of unique educational research and development, as well as practical experiences gained in education practice.
A call is made for research papers and other relevant contributions, such as posters and workshops, as well as other innovative activities. It is expected that the proposed Conference contributions will address the topics mentioned above and/or other topics and contributions relevant to the Conference aims and objectives.
Prospective authors should submit an abstract of 250-350 words, in English, outlining the aims, content and conclusions of their papers and other contributions. The abstract should include the title of the paper, authors’ names, affiliations, mailing addresses, e-mail address, telephone and fax numbers. Authors’ contributions (in form of research articles) will be printed after the Conference, with soft editing, language correction and formatting. The authors must present their papers or carry out intended activities personally, as their contributions will not be included in the Conference publication unless delivered.
A number of well-known local and international experts will be invited to address the Conference on key issues of engineering and technology education. Sessions will be structured to encourage useful discussion and it is intended that such discussion will be summarised towards the end of the Conference.
Proposals for the arrangement of invited sessions are welcome. These sessions are expected to address topical issues on engineering and technology education. Each proposal should include the names and affiliations of authors, as well as the abstracts of their papers. Proposals are also invited for the organisation of panel discussion sessions. Each proposal should include the names and brief résumés of the panellists. There is also room for innovative formats, permitting flexible arrangements for poster sessions, group discussions and interaction, demonstrations, etc. Any institution or individual interested in conducting such an activity should contact the Conference Chairmen.
It is envisaged that conference papers will be published in the World Transactions on Engineering and Technology Education (WTE&TE) or the Global Journal of Engineering Education (GJEE) after the Conference, subject to positive referees’ reports and the presentation at the Conference.
Conference contributors should note the following deadlines:
Receipt of papers/proposals: 15 January 2018 (change!)
Notification of acceptance: 22 January 2018
Preliminary Programme circulated: 1 February 2018
Receipt of final manuscripts: 2 March 2018
Acceptance of contributions notified: 15 March 2018
